Strikes, Union-Busting, and Union Wins This Week
More than 4,300 workers represented by the International Machinists Union (IAM) walked off the job on June 22 at the Bath Iron Works shipyard in Maine over union busting/outsourcing by General Dynamics
On June 26, around 1000 nurses represented by SEIU Local 121RN will strike at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, California over HCA Healthcare, the largest for profit hospital corporation in the US, refusing to honor a mediation agreement as the company pushes for more labor cuts and concessions from workers.

Over 700 nurses at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois filed a 10-day strike notice, and may walk off the job as early as July 4 amid ongoing union contract negotiations.
As workers at the Philadelphia Museum of Art fight to unionize, the museum has declined to voluntarily recognize the union. Hearings with the NLRB began this week as the museum has retained union avoidance law firm Morgan Lewis
The non-profit College Bound Dorchester in Dorchester, MA fired 1/3 of their staff a week after a union organizing drive was publicly announced. The non-profit recently raised $500,000 from a corporate fundraiser.

Workers at the Palm Beach Post/Palm Beach Daily News voted unanimously to form a union today.
Workers at Naple Daily News and The News Press is Southwest Florida also voted in favor of unionizing, with 86 percent of the vote in favor.
